Sydney Mom Finds Bus Crashed Into Her Home

Imagine coming home from dropping your kids off at school — only to find a full-sized city bus crashed through your garage and into your living room. That's exactly what happened to one Sydney mom, whose home was obliterated in a freak accident that shocked her entire neighborhood and left passengers screaming to escape.
Fayruz Sebo, a mother of three, was just returning from what should have been a routine morning school drop-off when she arrived to find chaos. A bus had slammed into the front of her family's home in Bonnyrigg Heights, a southwestern Sydney suburb, collapsing the garage and crushing her children's bedrooms — places they could have been sleeping in just days earlier if not for school starting that morning.
A Normal Day Turns Into a Scene of Destruction
The crash occurred at approximately 9:50 a.m. The vehicle, a passenger bus carrying multiple people, veered off Aplin Road and smashed directly into Sebo’s home, taking out the entire front portion of the house.
Sebo later revealed that she and her children are usually at home around that time — but it was their first day back at school. She told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), "Thank God that they're all at school ... We just went (to a) normal day of work and the kids went to school ... and I wasn't expecting anything like that."
The impact tore through the garage, living room, and the children's bedrooms. The structure was so damaged that neighbor Ziad Hilayel said it sounded like a "bomb" had gone off, ABC reports.
Neighbors Rush in as Bus Passengers Try to Escape
Hilayel was in his garage when the crash happened and said he immediately ran out, fearing for the family's safety. He first checked the house, fearing the children were inside.
He then turned to the bus, where the door was jammed. "They were all sitting in the back, they were shocked," Hilayel said to ABC. "I opened the door because the door was jammed and then they came out. They just wanted to get out of there," he continued.
Six people were reportedly treated on-site for minor injuries. The driver, believed to be in his 50s, also suffered minor injuries and was taken to Liverpool Hospital as a precaution, ABC reports.
What Caused the Crash?
The official cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed. However, preliminary reports from authorities suggest brake failure may be a possibility, according to Suggest. The vehicle will undergo a full mechanical inspection as part of the ongoing investigation.
New South Wales Police have not charged the driver and so far, no evidence of reckless driving or intoxication has been reported.
NSW Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched to evaluate the home's structural integrity. "Fire fighters have done an assessment on the house, there is some damage, but it is safe at this stage," Superintendent Adam Dewberry told ABC.
A Family Counting Its Blessings
While the physical damage is extensive — and emotionally devastating — Sebo is counting her blessings. Her kids weren't in their bedrooms when the bus came crashing through.
As the community rallies around the Sebo family, neighbors and responders alike are calling the incident a miracle — not because of what happened, but because of what didn't.
