Can Swimming Help a Cat Lose Weight? Meet Thicken Nugget!-1

A Surprising Solution

When Thicken Nugget first arrived at the Vanderburgh Humane Society, he weighed a whopping 30 pounds, twice the healthy weight for a male house cat. Faced with the challenge of helping him shed the extra pounds, the shelter opted for an unconventional exercise regimen: swimming. Initially hesitant, Thicken Nugget is now a regular in the pool, swimming twice a week under careful supervision and making remarkable progress towards his goal weight.

Making Waves in Weight Loss

Despite his initial reluctance, Thicken Nugget has grown to find comfort in the pool. "Well look at this sweet boy now! He is quite the swimmer!!" the Canine Aquatic Center shared on Facebook. His regular swims have helped him become more mobile, shedding more than five pounds since his aquatic journey began. The improvement in his mobility is crucial as his size had previously affected his joints and threatened spinal damage.

Community Support and Future Goals

The community's support has been vital in Ty's weight loss journey. Through donations, the shelter has been able to fund his twice-weekly water therapy sessions. As Ty continues to lose weight and gain mobility, the shelter's ultimate goal is to prepare him for adoption into a home that will maintain his diet and exercise regimen. "Ty's quality of life is affected at this point, so we want to give him a good quality of life," noted Mackenzee McKittrick, a staff member from the shelter, as reported by People.com.

A Story of Hope and Determination

"Day one, he didn’t know he could swim, and he had a little bit more weight on him," recounted Laura Novack, Ty’s swim instructor, as reported by People.com. Today, Thicken Nugget is not only healthier but is a beacon of hope, showing that with the right care and a bit of creativity, even the most challenging situations can be turned around.
